Civil Rights Act of 1866
The purpose of the Act was to give rights to freed slaves. It included the rights to make contracts, sue, witness in court, and own private property.
As the name states, it was made in 1866 as a counterattack on the southern Black Codes.
It was a direct help to the rights of freed slaves during the reconstruction period, it not only gave them new rights but showed that the government was watching out for them.
It definitely helped integration be giving rights to the otherwise unprotected freed slaves. The act declared that all people born in the United States were citizens, regardless of race, color, or previous condition.
